Planning a funeral service involves choosing a venue that reflects the wishes, beliefs and personality of the person being remembered. In West Wiltshire, families have a wide range of options available, from traditional church services to secular ceremonies in crematoria or other meaningful locations.
Many families choose a church or other place of worship for an attended religious funeral service – there are plenty of these in a variety of denominations in Wiltshire parishes, both in the larger towns and surrounding villages. The choices range from the 15th Century landmark Anglican St James’s Church in the centre of Trowbridge and St Bernadettes Catholic church in Westbury, to the Wesley Road Methodist Church (Trowbridge) and the Bratton Baptist Church. We can also arrange funerals at other faith venues, such as the Trowbridge Mosque.
In any and all cases we are happy to work with you, clergy and ministers to plan the order of service, readings, hymns and music as appropriate to reflect the wishes of the deceased.
For those who prefer a humanist, celebrant-led, or entirely secular service, West Wiltshire’s two nearest crematoria both offer flexible, non-denominational chapels suitable for funeral services of any kind.
We also have wide experience of families hiring community halls, sports clubs and hotel function rooms for memorial services.

Burials and interment of cremated remains can take place in cemeteries run by local authorities in our area, where small chapels are usually available for funeral services.

In recent years there has been a marked increase in the number of people choosing to have natural funerals, where they are laid to rest in biodegradable coffins in private woodland or meadow burial sites. In these cases, the family often prefers to bring a celebrant to the graveside to bid farewell.
However, and wherever you choose to honour your loved one, we will do our best to make the experience something special.
After we take your loved one into our care, and before the funeral takes place, we look after the deceased at our Trowbridge Chapels of Rest in Cote House.
Here, if you wish, you can come to say your goodbyes, privately or as a family, by appointment with your funeral director – either Marcus or Heshmon. We can arrange for the deceased to be dressed in clothing of your choice – or a simple funeral gown. Just decide before your visit so we can make sure your loved one is ready to receive you.
Viewing the deceased ahead of the funeral is a personal decision, of course, but we like to offer you the opportunity because it has been psychologically shown to start the bereaved on the path to accepting their loss and begin the grieving process. This is why viewing the body is a practice found in many cultures, for many centuries.
Our chapels of rest are deliberately designed to give you a peaceful, dignified, tastefully decorated minimalist room, where you will find your loved one resting in an open coffin. We make the experience as comfortable and as positive as possible.
Viewings can be arranged during normal office hours (9am to 4pm Mondays to Fridays). By special request – and staff commitments allowing – we do try to accommodate viewings outside of office hours.
